Silent horror film legend Lon Chaney Sr. starred in the lost film London After Midnight. This Premium Format 1:4 scale figure from Sideshow Collectibles recreates his gruesome vampire. Sculpted by Sideshow legend Oluf W. Hartvigson.
This quarter-scale figure is presented in full color (or black & white Silver Screen Edition), including all paint detail and fabric clothing. It has a polystone body clothed in an authentic reproduction of the original costume. The arms are constructed of heavy-gauge wire sewn into plush fabric, allowing you to adjust the pose and gesture of the figure's arms. The figure is completed with realistic hair, a non-removable 'beaver" hat, and his lantern. Each figure is hand painted and hand finished, and includes the cobble-stone display base.
London After Midnight is perhaps the most famous of Hollywood's lost films and was perhaps the first American vampire movie. The last known copy burned in the late 1950s, and since then, film historians and horror aficionados have sought to reconstruct or resurrect this horror great. Sadly all that remains of the 1927 Chaney classic are film stills and memories.
Playing a dual role, Chaney donned perhaps his most frightening face to play 'The Man in the Beaver Hat," a Scotland Yard inspector with a talent for hypnosis and disguise. Chaney's inspector disguises himself with a heavy black coat, immense top hat, sallow make-up and eerily symmetrical pointed teeth set in a fixed grin, perhaps hoping to hypnotize and frighten his prey into revealing the secrets of the murder that he is investigating.
Chaney's portrayal of the character was so memorable, and so disturbing, that the character will forever be regarded as one of the great horror icons.
